Shopify product image URL import: check the CSV first

To import Shopify product images by URL, use accessible image links and preserve the product and variant relationships in a current CSV export. Test a few products before updating the catalog. Creora can return processed image links in a rewritten file, but an arbitrary source file is not guaranteed to match Shopify's importer. Review the format and import it yourself.

Keep every image attached to the right product

An illustrative backpack has black and green variants with several views. After editing the backgrounds, the green option still needs its green image. A technically valid URL is not enough if it points to the wrong product.

Check Expected result
Image URL Opens an image without signing in
Product identity Matches the intended product handle
Variant image Matches the selected option
Gallery Retains the required additional views

Prepare a controlled update

  1. Export the products from Shopify and keep an untouched copy.
  2. Open the image URLs outside an authenticated session.
  3. If using Creora, supply a supported source and compare the processed images with the originals.
  4. Map new image URLs to the corresponding fields in your current Shopify export. Preserve the actual headers.
  5. Keep image and variant rows together; never sort one column independently.
  6. Import a representative group and inspect the gallery and option selection on the storefront.

Review more than the image column

During overwrite, a blank included optional field can clear its existing value. Read the whole file before importing and preserve product handles. Check Shopify's dependencies before removing columns to narrow an update.

Do not use private storage links that only work in your own browser. If an original image was removed after export, check whether the final file still refers to its old URL. Verify the links in the finished import file rather than a separate working document.

An import can succeed while showing the wrong variant photo, so inspect the live product page as part of acceptance. Keep a mapping between the original and replacement links for review and recovery.

Creora returns a rewritten source file; it is not a Shopify app and does not publish through the Shopify API. Import compatibility remains a separate check. Keep the original export until product galleries, variant images and other intended fields have been verified.

FAQ

How do I open a CSV for review?

Use a CSV aware import with the correct delimiter and encoding. Check identifiers and URLs after opening it. Do not sort the image column independently, and keep the original file.

What does importing products mean?

The platform reads a file and creates or updates supported product fields. Processing images in Creora does not import them into Shopify. Review the file structure, mappings and storefront result.

Why is my image CSV not importing correctly?

Check Shopify headers, row relationships and publicly accessible URLs. A rewritten arbitrary CSV may need mapping into Shopify’s format. Use the import report and a test product to identify the cause.
