Give the fields different jobs
An illustrative cotton pillowcase comes in a 20 × 30 inch size. Its composition and dimensions are verified; an allergy claim is not. Use the known facts in both the visible copy and search fields without adding a medical or performance promise.
| Field | Purpose | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Product title | Identify the item on the page | Cotton pillowcase, 20 × 30 in |
| SEO title | Describe the page in search | Cotton pillowcase, 20 × 30 in |
| SEO description | Summarize useful page information | Cotton pillowcase with size and care details on the product page. |
| Body description | Explain features and limitations | Verified fabric, closure and care instructions |
The examples are editorial drafts, not a ranking formula. Google may generate its own title link or snippet. A particular character count does not guarantee a position or an unchanged search display.
Update a small Shopify CSV batch
- Export the products and save an untouched backup.
- Keep the headers from your current export. Locate the SEO title and SEO description columns rather than inventing new ones.
- Preserve handles and the relationships between product, image and variant rows.
- If using Content, confirm the supported format and English US availability, then inspect which returned fields were populated.
- Review factual claims, spelling and product distinctions before importing.
- Test an update using the overwrite option for matching handles. Inspect the page HTML as well as the visible product text.
Avoid clearing data accidentally
An included blank optional column can clear an existing value during overwrite. Omitting an optional column generally preserves its value, subject to Shopify's column dependencies. Review the whole file, even if your task concerns only two fields.
Do not change a product URL just to rewrite its metadata. Keep known distinctions such as size or model without creating repetitive keyword lists. Content is a file workflow, with no Shopify app or automatic API publishing. The owner reviews and imports the result; field availability depends on the supported format.
Next step
Check Content capabilities and current pricing and the Shopify file workflows. Start with a representative batch and review the result before expanding. Shopify and English US processing are gated capabilities; confirm availability in your account before processing. A supported format does not establish enablement for every store.

FAQ
Metadata describes a page, including its meta description. The HTML title names the page. These fields do not replace visible product information, and Google may generate a different title link or snippet.
Include verified features, intended use, compatibility and care details relevant to the item. Keep unsupported claims out, and do not copy the entire body into the SEO description.
A product page includes images, options, price, availability and purchase information. Inspect these after a CSV update; correct metadata does not repair a wrong variant image or stale price.
